General Note
  • General note - One of the oldest towns in the province of Surigao; located in Siargao Island. Photo shows the heart of the coastal town facing Dapa Channel. The name Numancia was given by the Spanish missionary, Bartolome Sanchez de Xara, in honor of his hometown in Andalucia, Spain. In 1960 the town was renamed Del Carmen to honor its patroness, Our Lady of Carmen, whose feast is observed on the 16th of July. The town includes half of Bucas Grande island which lies southwest of Siargao. Its main products are coconut and rice, while fishing is also an important source of livelihood.
