Cotabato City is sometimes referred to as "that place across the river" because of its proximity to other progressive towns and is easier and quicker to reach through the Rio Grande, the chief highway for travel and transportation. The economic, social, political and religious life of the adjacent towns are therefore closely interwoven with the city. The national highway, which is in the process of construction, promises to draw added interest and attention to this agro-industrial area.
