- General note - This largest river in Mindanao has its source in the Kimankil Mountains near the northern coast of that island. It flows in a southernly direction through the province of Bukidnon. Then it makes a wide arc and flows westward across Cotabato province, and out into the sea in Illana Gulf. Several kms. before reaching the sea, it forks out into two branches at Tumbao. The northern branch has its mouth above Cotabato City. The city of Cotabato is situated in the delta formed by these two branches.
