| General Note |
- General note - Photo shows the coastal settlement of Jordan, premier town of the sub-province of Guimaras where an P8 million bulk sugar installation is located. Centrifugal sugar is loaded here by conveyor belts from barges to the warehouse and to waiting freighters; and molasses is siphoned from storage tanks into ocean-going ships for international trade. The island of Guimaras, opposite Iloilo, is the largest island of the province. Moderately high and hilly, especially in the eastern part (where there are hills 600 to 700 feet high), it lies between the islands of Negros and Panay. Guimaras was known as Himalus during the early Spanish time and was constantly raided by the Muslims. It had been an annex of Oton, Iloilo, Dumangas (in 1768) and Jaro (1775). Made a sub-province of Iloilo in 1937, it has three municipalities at present: Buenavista, Jordan and Nueva Valencia. Quimaras was a popular picnic ground even during the Spanish regime.
