General Note
  • General note - On this site, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi is said to have landed in 1565 to obtain fresh water and young coconuts four days before he dropped anchor at Bo-ol to make the historic blood compact with native chieftain Sikatuna. Forty-four years earlier, in 1521, Ferdinand Magellan allegedly landed on the same spot for the same reason. Even then, as now, this fishermen''s cove in the sitio of Sabang, Bonbon (Old Catarman) made an ideal inlet for safe anchorage. Volcanic rocks seen in the foreground and at the right are some of those ejected by Vulcan Da-an from 1871 to 1876.
