General Note
  • General note - The volcano was named after Lakan Laon, the legendary ancient royal chief of local farmers who made a livelihood by planting cereals and rootcrops. One day continuous rain fell and all the land became submerged. He asked magic powers of the gods and with one wave of his hand and a stomping of his feet, a gigantic mound suddenly rose from the now inundated plains. Lakan Laon led his subjects to the peak of the mountain to seek shelter from the flood. After his death, his subjects named the mountain Lakan Laon, which was later contracted to Canlaon.
