| General Note |
- General note - This town at the foot of Mount Banahaw was founded in 1577, according to legend, by 3 hunters from Majayjay, Laguna, who had lost their way. The hunters - Marcos Tigla, Luis Gumba and Lucas MaƱawa - while resting beneath the shade of a large pomelo (lukban) tree, heard and were haunted by the song of a couple of salaksak birds (kingfishers) on a nearby tree. Early town records seem to corroborate the legend for they show that Marcos Tigla was the first gobernadorcillo in 1595, succeeded by Luis Gumba the following year and finally Lucas Manawa who governed for 4 years.
