- General note - Photo shows a Muslim village at the edge of Tubig Maapalam. Bongao is the largest town in the entire group of southern islands, called Tawi-Tawi. It is an island-town, and can be reached only by boat. The distance between Jolo and Bongao is about 125 miles. It takes about 15 hours to cover the trip by a motorized boat.
