  • General note - Sakai was one of 85 Japanese Zero pilots who, with the pilots of 108 Japanese bombers, destroyed American air power in Clark Field on December 8, 1941. They were surprised to see American enemy bombers and fighters neatly parked on the airfield runways, like sitting ducks.
