  • Title - Cavite Mutiny, 1872
General Note
  • General note - On the night of Januasry 20, 1872, about 200 Filipinos solidiers and workers in the Cavite arsenal rose in mutiny under the leadership of Lamadrid. The mutineers has a secret understanding with the Filipino soldiers in Manila for a concerted uprising, the signal being rocket to be fired from the city walls. Mistaking the firewors of the Sampaloc fiesta for the signal of a general uprising, the Cavite plotters seized Fort San Felipe for a night and the commanding officer and the other Spanish officers in charge of the Fort were killed. At 10 o'clock in the evening, the insurgents fired the cannon to announce their victory to the sleeping city.
