- Notes - The club started out in 1898 as a propaganda organization for the Philippine republic. It was later reorganized as El Club Internacional in the 1900s and then renamed Club Filipino, to be known as the center of social life for Manila''s high society. Photo shows the frontage of the elegant center of social life for Manila''s high society. The Club sponsored the first concerts of Philippine music, held exhibitions of works by local artists, kept a fine collection of historical relics and saved the traje de mestiza from extinction in the 1920s by requiring its female members to come to special social functions wearing the Filipino elegant dress.
