- Notes - Photo shows two houses on stilts, more popularly known as the bahay kubo. The framework of the house is made of bamboo to which are fastened rows of nipa shingles called pawid. The house posts are usually made of strong molave wood. A nipa hut''s hip roof repels the rain on all four sides, filters the sun''s rays and sucks up the hot air of the house towards its ridge. The house posts usually of molave are inserted into holes and kept in place by buried rocks.
