- Notes - Shown is a bahay kubo or nipa hut with a slatted shelf (bangguera, bangahan) jutting out of the window to hold the plates and clay pots. On the right side of the house is an exposed porch called batalan where the water jars are kept. A main ladder or hagdan protected by a canopy leads to the main house and another, to the porch. The enclosed space under the house called silong doubles as a storage area and pig pen.
