Title Statement
  • Title - Trawl fishing boats
General Note
  • General note - Trawl fishing in the Manila Bay area was suddenly banned in March 1947 due to the complaints of small fishermen from Cavite, Bulacan, Rizal, and Manila. In protest, trawl-fishing operators grounded their fishing boats, sending the price of fish up. This happened during the Lenten season, when fish and other seafoods are usually in demand. A Senate bill seeking to prohibit trawl-fishing in Philippine waters sparked a prolonged debate as ugly rumors of a lobby were bruited about in both houses of Congress.
