Title Statement
  • Title - Coconut oil in drums
General Note
  • General note - The Philippines' dependence on the American market for what to produce affected the local economy adversely. For example, it caused a glut in coconut oil after World War I and stunted the growth of small industries. Thus, during the occupation, the Japanese government ordered the intensification of copra and coconut oil production. Beginning 1943, all coconut oil consignments to Manila from the provinces were "compulsorily purchased" at examination stations. Oil smuggling was severely punished. YYY
