- Notes - Photo shows the stone fort built in the 1600s to replace the original makeshift structure made of palm logs erected by Legazpi in May 1565. Fort San Pedro featured three bastions and a parade ground in a triangle. it faced the plaza mayor or Plaza Maria Cristina, later Plaza Independencia, and stood across the cathedral and the residences of the leading citizens of the city.
