| General Note |
- General note - Marker erected in commemoration of the blood compact between Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna of Bohol. Legazpi sailed from Natividad, Mexico on Nov. 21, 1564 and reached Bohol in the middle of 1565 after passing by Samar, Leyte and Camiguin. In Bohol, he first dropped anchor at the eastern town of Jagna where he made some repairs on his flagship. The Boholanos were unfriendly and because some years earlier some Portuguese sailor had looted the place. With the help of Muslim sailor from Borneo, Legazpi explained that the Spaniards were a different people. A chief from Tagbilaran named Datu Sikatuna welcomed him and as a token of friendship, performed the blood compact on the deck of Legazpi's flagship on March 16, 1565. The province of Bohol was named after the town where the blood compact took place.
