General Note
  • General note - Photo show the monument of the outstanding legislator, dominating the park name in his honor. Daniel Z. Romualdez's outstanding traits of character were self-effacement, humility, high sense of patriotism, honor, trust and godliness. The third child of Miguel Romualdez, former mayor of Manila, and Brigida Zialcita, Ronualdez was born in Tolosa, Leyte, September 11, 1907. He obtained the degree of bachelor of laws in 1931 from the University of the Philippines. Romualdez attended law classes at the Columbia University and the Oxford University in 1938. He was admitted before both the Federal Supreme Court in Washington, D. C. and the United States Court in China. In 1947, he obtained the degree of Master of Laws from the University of Manila. Romualdez was first elected in 1949 as the congressman of the first district of Leyte for which he obtained enormous public work funds to bolster the growth, improvement and progress of the towns. In 1954 he was chosen the speaker pro-tempore of the House of Representatives. Four years later he was elected the Speaker of the 4th session (1958-1961) and the first three months of the 5th session in 1962. For this successful legislative leadership he was cited posthumously by the Um in 1965. Romualdez married Paz Gueco y Aquino, of the prestigious and wealthy family of that name in Pampanga and Tarlac. They had four daughters. Taking time out of a busy life in 1965, Romualdez attended a two-day spiritual retreat in Baguio City. After emerging from it the night before, he succumbed to a fatal heart attack early the following morning of March 22, 1965. He was given a state funeral and was interred in the family mausoleum at the La Loma catholic Cemetery.
