General Note
  • General note - Shown is the monument erected in Malate to honor Antonio Pineda. He was a member of an expedition sent out from Spain by the government in July 1789 to draw plans and maps of Spanish colonies. A native of Guatemala and Spanish officer, he died in Ilocos while on scientific observation trip. He was only thirty-nine at the time of his death. The monument was reported "practically destroyed" in the late 18th century.
