- Title - Puerta del Parian
|
| Notes |
- Notes - Parian gate. Photo of the gate fronting the Chinese quarters. One of the city''s two main passages (the other being "Real"). Parian was situated in the middle of the stone curtain facing the northeast. Formidable and strategic, the gate had a guard station "capacious enough to lodge a company of men" and a sentry tower equipped with cannons and concrete shields. The outer defenses of the gate were no less impressive: a crownwork (an outwork consisting of a central bastion connected by curtains with two demi-bastions and connected by wings with the main work"), a false-braga (a second rampart exterior parallel to the main rampart and considerably below its level), a ditch, a parapet and a palisade.
