| General Note |
- General note - Marker in front of the Lucena Cathedral was installed in 1952 when Lucena, although already the provincial capital, was a mere municipality. It became the capital of Tayabas province on March 10, 1902 and was made a chartered city on August 10, 1961. A royal order issued on November 5, 1897, named it after the hometown in Andalucia (Spain) of Fr. Mariano Granja, the Franciscan friar who contributed much to the development of the town. Previously it was known under various names: Buenavista (beautiful scenery), when still a small barrio "set like a jewel in a midst of the lush greenery of coconut palm trees and grasslands"; Oroquieta, in honor of a Spanish official who served in the province; and Cotta, the strong defense fort built against Muslim raids.
