| General Note |
- General note - Mauban, another coastal town of Quezon province, was vulnerable to Muslim incursions, and its history from 1758 to 1826 teems with frequent battles between the natives and the pirates who attacked at least 5 times during a period of 68 years. During one of the battles, two Franciscan friars were held prisoners by Amukar, but were saved by the natives under the leadership of Bartolome Santiago. In recognition this feat, the was awarded in 1798 by Captain-General Rafael Mariano Aguilar with 8 guns (3 big and 5 small ones) that could also be used for the subsequent defense of the town. Two of these guns, about 5 feet long, are proudly displayed in front of the municipal building. One is seen in the photo with the historical marker.
