- Notes - A photo of the fort taken from Malecon Drive in Manila. Named after the Apostle James, Fort Santiago occupies a tongue of land at the mouth of the Pasig River. Work on its stone walls began in 1590 under Governor General DasmariƱas. A moat before the fort''s main entrance separated it from the rest of Intramuros.
