General Note
  • General note - This monument with its obelisk topped by a ball, was built during the Spanish regime. There are inscriptions, as "Gobernador Don Miguel Creus" on one side and "1866, Reinando Ysabel II" on the other. Pigafetta, chronicler of the Magelan expedition, cites Lapulapu as a rebellious chieftain of Mactan Island, who refused to pay tribute "to Magellan's king".
