  • Notes - Scientific name: Dupetor flavicollis flavicollis Family: Ardeidae Local name: Bakaw na itim, Mangansile Other common names: Yellow necked/Mangrove Bittern Conservation Status: LC (Least Concern) Inhabiting swamps, lakes, and water courses and feeding on insects and fish. Black bitterns may be found in Cebu, Luzon, Marinduque, Mindanao, Negros and Samar. They breed from May to October and make nests of reed stems, rushes, twigs, and aquatic weeds. Nestbuilding and breeding are shared duties.
