  • Notes - Scientific name: Ixobrychus sinensis Family: Ardeidae Local name: Bakaw-tumana Other common names: Yellow Bittern/Long nosed Bittern Conservation status: LC (Least Concern) Inhabiting swamps, lakes, ponds, and other small bodies of water throughout the Philippines, these bitterns feed on fish, insects, shrimps and other small aquatic animals. They breed from May to September and keep their young in nests made of leaves, stems, reeds and rushes with no lining, about 7 inches in diameter. A full clutch is from four to six eggs, pale skim-milk blue or green blue. The shell is fine but glossless.
