- Title - Philippine Pygmy Falcon
|
| Notes |
- Notes - Scientific name: Microhierax erythrogenys erythrogenys Family: Falconidae Local name: Kikiro, Sigong (Pil) Other common names: Philippine Falconet Conservation status: LC (Least Concern) Also known as Philippine falconets, these birds fly over Luzon and Mindanao. This species is extremely local in its habits and is often found perching on a dead limb at the top of a tree, and may be met with in exactly the same place day after day. It feeds on insects, and often leaves its perch on short flights in pursuit of its prey, promptly returning. When shot at but not killed it usually takes but a short flight and returns at once to its favorite perch. Small flocks are frequently found together.
