Upperparts, including wings and tail, black with a blue-green gloss. Underparts silky white; flanks and thighs black. Found in Luzon, Mindoro, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Samar, and Mindanao. This pygmy falcon feeds mostly on insects, which it catches during short flights from its customary perch on top of a tall tree. Nests in old woodpecker or barbet holes.
