- Notes - Scientific name: Phapitreron leucotis leucotis Family: Columbidae Local names: Bato-Batong Tulog, Limukin (Tag); Kurokuro (Pil); Alimucon, Limucon (Vis) Other common names: Lesser Brown Fruit-dove, Brown/White-eared Fruit-pigeon Conservation status: LC (Least Concern) A rather small bird. General color brown, bronzy on the upperparts; crown gray, becoming bronzy green on the nape and hind neck, with a bluish green patch. A black line below the eye and a white or buff line below, from eye to nape; face and breast fulvous; undertail gray. The coloration of the 2 species of Phapitreron, a genus peculiar to the Philippines, is exactly like that of many of the true doves, therefore very different from the gaudy hues of all the other fruit doves, to which, however, they belong because of their shape, structure, and habits. They are purely arboreal, as their very short legs show, and both sexes are alike. Their food consists mostly of berries. They live in forests and second growth, amid thick foliage, not far from the ground.
