- Notes - Scientific names: Penelopides panini ticaensis, Penelopides panini panini Family: Bucerotidae Local name: Tariktik (Tag); Talusi, Taosi (Vis) Other common names: Visayan Hornbill, Panay Tarictic Hornbill, Rufous-tailed Hornbill Conservation status: EN (Endangered) A small bird, casque low and sharp, obliquely chiseled and marked at the base, reddish brown with yellow marks. Male: Vuffish white on the head, neck, and underparts; black cheeks and throat. mantle and wings bronze black; tail black with a more or less wide rufous band in the middle, sometimes occupying the whole basal part. Female: Head and underparts black. Peculiar to the Philippines, where it is noisy, feeding on wild figs and other fruit. There are many local subspecies, differing mostly in size and in the amount of light color on the tail. They frequent old forests, but seem partial to overgrown clearings, and move about in small flocks. Voice resembles the sound of a child''s trumpet. The flight is like that of other hornbills.
