Notes
  • Notes - In 1635, Father Melchor de Vera built this stone fort in Zamboanga and named it Fuerza de San Jose. It was quadrilateral in shape with bastions at every corner. The fort, however, was abandoned by the Spanish troops in 1663. Shown is the southwestern wall of the fort facing Basilan Strait. (Source: Fortress of Empire, Rene Javellana, 1997)
