- Notes - Scientific name: Eudynamys scolopacea mindanensis Family: Cuculidae Local names: Bahaw (Pil); Kwahao, Bahao (Vis) Other common names: Asian Koel (scolopacea group), Black-billed Koel (melanorhyncha); Australian/Blue-headed Koel (cyanocephala group) Conservation status: LC (Least Concern) Large bird with a long tail. Male: Entirely black. Female: Dark brown spotted and barred with rufous, paler below. Very common, lives in high forest trees. It has an annoying and resounding call, is mostly a fruit eater, and is a parasite of the crows.
