- Notes - Scientific name: Gallinula chloropus Family: Rallidae Local names: Riwariw, Ulok (Pil); Tikling, Ituman (Vis) Other common names: Common Gallinule; Common Moorhen Conservation status: LC (Least Concern) The moorhen lives in marshlands, lakes and other smaller water forms, feeding on fish, shrimp, water insects, worms, seeds, and tender shoots of plants. It breeds from March to September and keeps its young in nests tucked in reed beds or branches of trees. A full clutch contains 3 to 5 eggs but some can contain 6 to 8 as well. Eggs are creamy-white speckled with fine dots of purplish grey, brown and yellowish brown. Incubation is shared and lasts for about 16 to 18 days.
