- Notes - Scientific name: Pitta sordida mulleri Family: Pittidae Local name: Wawa (Batak, Tagbanua); Bahwa (Tag), Wowha (Vis) Other common names: Green-breasted(!)/Hooded Pitta Conservation status: LC (Least Concern) The black-headed pitta stays in the overgrown parts of forests and on the ground. It is distributed over Balabac, Bantayan, Basilan, Bohol, Palawan, Calamianes, Cebu, Luzon, Marinduque, Mindanao, Mindoro, Negros, Bongao, Romblon, Samar, Tablas, and Tawi-Tawi. It''s eggs are rounded ovate, ground colour pure white, thickly speckled all over with brown and larger underlying spots of French grey, the latter being numerous round the larger pole. The nest was somewhat bulky composed outwardly of twigs and lined with moss. The natives call this bird "Wowha" from its note. Occasionally they are seen and frequently heard in the forest, especially in the overgrown parts with underbrush, on the ground, or at most a few feet above it, on fallen tree-trunks and the like.
