- Notes - Scientific name: Pluvialis fulva Family: Charadriidae Local name: Matang-baka (tag); Tohil (Vis) Other common names: Asiatic/Eastern/Pacific Golden Plover Conservation status: LC (Least Concern) Frequents waste ground, grassy plains, and wet paddy fields, edges of lakes, rivers, fishponds, open fields, and seashores, and is generally met within flocks of considerable size. Distributed all over. Breeds in China and in som parts of India, before their winter migration to the Philippines, laying four eggs in a hollow lined with a few blades of grass and lichens; 4 to 5 eggs making a complete clutch; the egg is creamy white or yellowish brown, mottled with brown and black spots. Here, they are usually in their grey winter plumage, but some were found in black feathers while still in breeding plumage. They feed on insects, beetles, bugs, crickets, moths, flies, wriggly worms, snails, mollusks, shell fish, and some plant materials.
