- Notes - The Divine Word University of Tacloban was founded in 1929 as a catholic school for boys by Bishop Sofronio Hacbang, together with Supreme Court Associate Justice Norberto Romualdez, Bernardo Torres, Juan Perez and Martin de Veyra. Only after the war in 1945 did the school offer collegiate courses and became coeducational in the elementary, high school and college levels.
