- Notes - Photo shows the country's first savings bank on Plaza Goiti in Santa Cruz, Manila. The bank, originally named Monte de Piedad y Caja de Ahorros, was founded by Fray Felix Huertas of the Franciscan order. It started operations in 1882 as a savings bank and pawnshop. Its capital of about P34,000.00 came from legacies administered by the Real Casa de Misecordia which was then being allocated to the poor and the prisoners.
