- Notes - The Ata or Ata-as are so called because they live in the highlands west of Mount Apo, Kapalong, and Compostela Valley in the northern part of Davao. They are believed to be the descendants of an early invading Malay group that intermarried with Davao Negritos and, later, Bagobos. Some of the Ata shown here are holding native spears with poisoned tips, called bangkaw.
