| Notes |
- Notes - Two Bontoc men hold gongs (gangsa) with human-jaw handles. The gangsa, a flat metal drum about a foot in diameter, is the most common of the few musical instruments of the Bontoc. It is held vertically in the hand by a cord passing through two holes in the rim. To facilitate the grip, the cord will usually have a human lower jaw attached. The gong hangs free in front of the player (male) who strikes the surface with a padded stick. Gangsa music consists mainly of rhythm; what harmony it has to offer is, at best, crude. (Jenks, 190).
