| Notes |
- Notes - Named after the Apostle James, Fort Santiago occupies a tongue of land at the mouth of the Pasig River. Work on its stone walls began in 1590 under Governor General Dasmariñas. A moat before the fort's main entrance separated it from the rest of Intramuros. (Source: Fortress of Empire, Rene Javellana, 1997)
