General Note
  • General note - A Maranao festival is not complete without an exhibition of traditional dances. Here two young girls dance the singkil, waving and swinging their fans (apir) and stamping their feet as they step in and out of bamboo poles. Other participants in the dance manipulate the pairs of bamboo poles arranged in criss-cross fashion, moving them downward and inward (to strike each other) to set the rhythm.
