- Notes - The shrine of Our Lady of the Pillar at the eastern gate of Fort Pilar in Zamboanga. The bas-relief of the image was brought to the Philippines in 1734. Until the Spanish troops captured Jolo, Fort Pilar in Zamboanga was the southermost bastion of Spanish rule in the country. It was constructed in 1635 and was designed by Father Melchor de Vera, S.J. (Source: Fortress of Empire, Rene Javellana, 1997).
