| General Note |
- General note - Printing was introduced in the Philippines in 1593, when Dominican Father Domingo de Nieva, with the help of a Christian convert named Keng Yong, established the first printing press in Manila. From this xylographic press came forth the first book, the famed Doctrina Cristiana, a bilingual manuscript on catechism. In 1625, it was housed at and belonged to the College of Santo Tomas (now known as the University of Santo Tomas) in Intramuros. The U.S.T. Printing Press has been renamed Novel Printing Press in 1901 and is now owned by a private corporation. (Landmarks of Manila: 1571-1930, Visitacion de la Torre, 1981) YYY
