- Notes - Fray Andres de Urdaneta was the chief adviser and navigator of the Legazpi expedition in 1564. His greatest achievement was his discovery of the North Equatorial Current, a safe route back across the Pacific to America. This became the route of the Manila Galleon for 200 years.
