- Notes - Photo shows an elegant Manila couple in the 1900s. The male wears a silk suit over a white with standing collar and a bow tie. The female wears the elegant traje de mestiza which has become the terno because of the matching material and color of the bodice and the skirt. The wrap-around is a refined version of the tapis, which by this time is made of sheer material, usually tulla, and embroidered. The cut somewhere below the knees had disappeared and the train, while still sweeping the floor, would decrease in length, and eventually be gone ,too, in five to ten years time.
