| Title |
- Title - Damian Domingo: A town mayor with another local official. 1820.
|
| Notes |
- Notes - The gobernadorcillo, whose title was changed to capitan municipal in 1890, was the town mayor. Here he is shown in two modes of dress: (a) formal, "Napoleonic in style, from knee-breeches to tricorn hat..." and (b) everyday wear consisting of a barong tagalog and a short jacket. In both cases he carries a symbol of authority--a gold cane or a bamboo staff (Nick Joaquin, The World of Damian Domingo: Nineteenth Century Manila, 1990, 28).
