| Notes |
- Notes - Commenting on this painting in The World of Damian Domingo: NIneteenth Century Manila, Nick Joaquin observes that (1) the little girl's clothes replicate the woman's ,an indication that there were no special clother for children then, and (2) people in mourning could wear bright-colored clothes. Although the woman's head covering, dyed black, indicates that there has been a death in the family, she and the little girl are wearing colored clothes (1990, 34).
