General Note
  • General note - One of the most revered fiestas in the Philippines is the Ati-Atihan festival celebrated in Kalibo, Aklan every third Sunday of January in honor of the Child Jesus. Scholars agree that the Ati-Atihan derived its name from the word Atis, referring to the aboriginal Negritos of that area. Before the arrival of the conquistadores, the Atis celebrated this festival as a pagan ritual. But when the Spaniards came, they gave the celebration some Christian significance and meaning and dedicated it to the Santo Nino.
