General Note |
- General note - Contrary to beliefs that it was a derivation of the American "Maryland, My Maryland," this song is an original composition by Dr. Francisco Santiago. It is based on our native kundiman and its solemnity and nobility expresses the inherent Filipino sentiment. A pioneer in merging Filipino folk songs as basis for classical music, Dr. Santiago was the first Filipino director of the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Philippines. His dissertation at the Chicago Musical College was the presentation of his Piano Concerto in B Flat Major which makes use of the folk songs "Leron, Leron Sinta" and "Tuba."
