General Note
  • General note - The music and lyrics were composed by Jose G. Santos. Jose G. Santos was born in Bagumbayan, Bulacan, Bulacan on July 9, 1884. His inspiration for this song is his daughter, Felicidad (now Mrs. Felicidad Vicente) for whom this song is also dedicated. More than a song offered to a favorite daughter, "Ang Dalagang Pilipina" is immensely popular among the Filipinos since it was written in 1928. The song is characterized by its sublime tone and lyrics that extols the ideal beauty and innate traditions of the Filipino woman. Even today, the Filipino's love for the song has not faltered as shown by its being played by rondallas, bands, and orchestras all over the country. "Lambing", "Nelia", "Gunita", "Hibik", and "Plegaria de Una Madre" (his last composition written while at his sickbed) are some of the more popular compositions during his time. Most of these were written during the times he spent with Nicanor Abelardo who not only admired him and but also taught him various ways of composing music. (From TALIBA, December 10, 1967)
